View all articles by David DavidInternational calling is when you place a phone call between one country and another. Your call is then handled by another phone company and network built in the country you are calling. That phone company has no affiliation with the phone company you are calling from except to receive and connect your call to your party.
The term, ?International call? then became a word used when service became available between countries. International calling became available when countries began to standardize the technical protocol of transmitting and receiving calls over different networks. Also, over the years, large amounts of telephone wire or ?cable? was installed to further facilitate the needs of the enormous amounts of callers.
HOW TO PLACE AN INTERNATIONAL
LONG DISTANCE CALL?
The instructions below will work from a cellphone, a home phone or business phone. These instructions below may vary from country to country and from city to city within a country. Most times you make calls two ways for international calls. You may dial directly or use an operator. If you choose to dial directly, below are standard ways.
011 + country code + city code + phone number
For example, to call someone in
011 + 331 + 3 + XXXX-XXXX
Note: The actual number of digits for each category can vary by country or city.
If you use an operator, dial:
01
Note: Operator assisted calls are ?The? most expensive call billed today.
Calls placed ?off-shore? to Puerto Rico, the Caribbean,
USING YOUR CELLPHONE TO SAVE THE MOST ON INTERNATIONAL CALLS.
Cellphone DIAL-AROUNDS
Most ?dial-around? companies in the past begin with the numbers 10-10 followed by a three-digit access code (10-10-XXX). Some use other combinations such as 10-15 or 10-16 followed by a three-digit access code. Dial-arounds require the use of these access codes along with the rest of the number you are dialing. For example:
Using a dial-around allows you to bypass or "dial-around" your selected long distance carrier and use another long distance carrier that offers cheaper rates than your regular plan. Many dial-around rates are as good as or better than calling plan rates and have no monthly fee. Charges from using dial-arounds appear on your monthly bill. The most common was: 10-10-XXX + 011 + country code + city code + phone number.
The new and best way, and certainly most convenient, is to make an international call is from you cellphone! Companies such as Cellular International.com, offer low rates to all countries just by dialing their toll free number, then dialing your number. 888-XXX-XXXX + 011 + country code + city code + phone number. The reason for these low rates, you may ask, are due to bypassing all the phone companies "dial-around" and accessing a private network. Yes, you use your plan minutes on your cellphone, as well as you rate per minute to call the country you choose to call, but you are charged exactly same from the mobile carrier you are with now. The difference is that you pay half or less than you pay now with your major carriers. ?Dial around? is the way to go today.
