About Nanook Designs Nanook Designs is one woman shows run by myself Micki Wilde. Iâm a self representing artist/jewellery designer from Leicestershire UK, who offers unique ooak (one of a kind) and limited edition pieces of jewellery at affordable prices. My website has a range of specialised collections, but I also make other types of jewellery which are sold through craft fairs and local shops. I do commissioned pieces too, working on a personal one to one basis with customers to create an original piece of work that will be treasured for years to come. View all articles by Micki WildeBeing a full time craft hobbyist is what I adore; I love all aspects of crafting and the crafts people themselves. I originally started out as a lot of crafters do by making cards for friends and family. This soon grew into selling them at craft fairs and then onto making polymer clay pieces to go on the cards too, I then started getting into making polymer clay sculptural pieces and eventually into making brooches and pendants for jewellers. It soon dawned on me that maybe I should be making the jewellery too, so I invested in some cheap but usable pieces of kit and beads and off I went. That was that I was totally hooked and soon became obsessed with all things jewellery related, to the point of giving up my card making and most of my polymer clay work too. I now specialize in jewellery design and have my own business making and selling my ‘one of a kind’ unique handcrafted jewellery pieces the whole world over. I owe a great deal of thanks to my family and friends who have supported me over the years and bought me gifts of books and magazines on all types of crafts and especially jewellery design. I also owe thanks to the people who take the time to write these books and magazines for all us hobbyists out there and hope someday to write not just short articles about my craft experiences but also my own range of books for craft hobbyists who want to get ahead in the business world and turn there hobby into a lifelong career opportunity. I do talks at local hobby groups on how to make jewellery items and also how to find your specialist hobby. I truly believe that without the craft world my life would be a dull comparison from what it is today and feel eternally grateful for the opportunity to have turned my hobby into a career. |
