If your cheerleader group, football or basketball team is looking for a fundraising idea that is easy, has very little cost to do and is unique, this may be a fundraising idea to consider. Have the cheerleaders challenge the football or basketball team to a game of a neutral sport. The sport you choose should be active, but not give too much advantage to height or size. Soccer, indoor soccer, floor hockey, slow pitch or dodge-ball are possibilities.
Spice-up the event with wacky costumes. An announcer and color commentator would add another dimension. Organize a half-time show with some talent within the school. Perhaps share the proceeds of the event with the school band in exchange for performing at the half-time show. Make it more interesting by having a booby prize for the losers, like if the football team loses, some of the players have to dress like cheerleaders the next day, or if the cheerleaders loose, they have to deliver water to the team for the next week of practice. Use your imagination to make this cheerleader fundraising idea your own.
The marketing and ticket sales, and the organization of the event, are similar to any other fundraising event. Once you decide on a date and location, publicize this information by posters, media releases, and flyers. Sell tickets at the door or in advance. Make additional money during the fundraising event by selling hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks. If you have a graphic artist in your group, design a unique logo and print up some T-shirts. A draw for T-shirts will publicize the event and earn some extra money. Create a website to advertise the event and display photos of the event to build excitement for next year.
There are many variations that can be done with this basic idea. Your group?s creativity will produce a successful and unique school fundraiser.
