Cheerleader Fundraising Idea - Challenge the Football Team

Ron Strand is a part-time member of the faculty of the Centre for Communication Studies at Mount Royal College, where he teaches courses at the Bisset School of Business and the President of Strateo Consulting Inc., a communications, fundraising and marketing consulting firm. He is a member of Mensa, the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the International Association of Business Communicators. Other interests are golf, mountain biking and back-country skiing.
View all articles by Ron StrandIf your cheerleader group, football or basketball team is looking for a fundraising idea that is easy, has very little cost to do and is unique, this may be a fundraising idea to consider. Have the cheerleaders challenge the football or basketball team to a game of a neutral sport. The sport you choose should be active, but not give too much advantage to height or size. Soccer, indoor soccer, floor hockey, slow pitch or dodge-ball are possibilities.
Spice-up the event with wacky costumes. An announcer and color commentator would add another dimension. Organize a half-time show with some talent within the school. Perhaps share the proceeds of the event with the school band in exchange for performing at the half-time show. Make it more interesting by having a booby prize for the losers, like if the football team loses, some of the players have to dress like cheerleaders the next day, or if the cheerleaders loose, they have to deliver water to the team for the next week of practice. Use your imagination to make this cheerleader fundraising idea your own.
